For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6 KJV)
I AM SO GLAD when Christmas comes and our memories go back to years gone by and to different Christmases from the past when we were much younger.
My parents saw that the nine in our family were at Sunday School and Church every Sunday, even though the nine-mile trip was a long journey in an old car in the 1920's.
I remember the lighted candles on the tree at Christmas. Several men with buckets of water always sat in the first row in case a lighted candle would catch the cedar tree on fire. Thankfully, I never saw this happen.
After the Christmas service, the children were all given brown bags filled with fruit, candy, and nuts. These were treats we didn't get very often back then.
All the children were so happy to have "pieces" to say at the Christmas services.
