Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men. (Luke 2:13-14 KJV)
WHEN I was a little kid, my Mom and Dad explained why we
celebrated Christmas. They told me that Christmas was
Jesus' birthday, and so we celebrated it to honor him.
Well, being a little kid, I thought that having your birthday
meant that you had a cake and lots of presents and had
"Happy Birthday" sang to you. I thought that it was just
horrible that Jesus didn't get any cakes or presents. I think
that I probably would have tried to send him something if I
could have figured out how and where to send it. So, since I
couldn't do these things, I made my parents sing "Happy
Birthday" to Jesus every Christmas morning before we
started opening our presents.
I have always liked to go to church on Christmas mornings.
To me, it is a part of my Christmas. We don't have to get up
any earlier or anything like that and it really helps me
realize the spiritual side of Christmas. Many of the people
that I know look at Christmas as a "gimme" holiday, and to
them, the most important part is the presents, but to me it
is more than that. It is the time when God's Son was born.
Christmas is the most important and happiest time of the
year.
