We are Not All Alike!
The "Lutheran Church" has been in the news recently with the
other Christian denominations. Not ALL Lutherans are the same. We are not.
We are the LUTHERAN CHURCH - MISSOURI SYNOD (LC-MS).
Who Are We Then?
We are more than 2 million members in over 6,000 congregations
in the U.S. with mission fields in almost 60 countries. This year the LC-MS
celebrated our 150th anniversary in the U.S. though the Lutheran heritage
and our roots go back to Europe and Martin Luther in the early 1500's.
We are the church of The Lutheran Hour, the longest running radio program
in the world (airing Sundays at ???? on ????). We also have a large education
system in the U.S. ranging from pre-K, to grade school, high school, colleges
and seminaries.
What Missouri Synod Lutherans Believe:
-
The Bible (Holy Scriptures) differs from all other books in the world in
that it is the true Word of God, written through the inspiration of the
Holy Spriit. The Bible contains no errors and is the infallible Truth.
-
On the basis of the Holy Scriptures we believe the sublime article of the
Holy Trinity; that is, we believe that the one true God is the Father and
the Son and the Holy Spirit.
-
According to the Holy Scriptures, God is perfect and holy. God the Father
gave human beings His Law, 10 Commandments, by which to live. The penalty
for sin, disobeying the Law, is death.
-
Jesus the Messiah (Christ), God's only Son, took on human flesh and was
the only one to live without sin, perfectly keeping all the demands and
commands of God the Gather. He willingly sufferand died on a Cross to pay
the penalty for the sins of all people. His sacrifice on our behalf unites
all believers to God the Father. Jesus physically rose from the dead after
3 days.
-
Christ now rules in heaven as King of Kings. On the Last Day, He will return
to Earth, raise all the dead, and bring true believers into eternal life
in heaven. All unbelievers will be cast inot eternal death in hell.
-
God the Holy Spirit works through the Word and through the sacraments of
Baptism (to bring new life in faith by grace) and the Lord's Supper (to
offer forgive-ness, power and assurance in the true Body and Blood of Christ
to all those who share this faith, fellowship and life as disciples of
the Savior, Jesus Christ).
-
As a conservative, family-oriented church, we believe that all human life
(from conception to natural death) is always sacred, precious, and to be
protected. According to the Scriptures the basis of the family is the life-long
marriage of a man and woman, therefore homosexuality and sex outside of
marriage is against God's will.
-
Christians are called to live their faith through deeds of love toward
others and to tell people that the only way to salvation is byn faith in
Jesus Christ.
